Anderson
County to Promote Equine Activities-Topic of Landrum Meeting
The Anderson County council at its January meeting passed an
initiative to engage the Economic Development Division to
recruit horse-related industries for the county. The long
range goals of this program are to bolster the local economy and
make Anderson County an attractive county in the region for
horse enthusiasts to relocate. The Anderson County
Economic Development Director Heather Simmons Jones will be the
speaker at the SCTOBA summer meeting in Landrum on June 21st.
The meeting will be held at FENC with lunch at 1 PM and the
program to follow. Several planning initiatives
are on the drawing board. These range from both public and
private land for trails, hunt clubs, and new facilities.
Anderson County is home to Garrison Arena, a Clemson University
facility as well as sharing the Clemson Equestrian Trail system
with its neighboring counties. Since in the most recent
equine census, Anderson County was ranked second in numbers of
horses, the county has the local support to make this program a
huge success and serve as a guideline for other counties in the
region looking for industry that builds jobs as well as green
space.
