JANUARY EQUINE CONFERENCE PLANNED FOR
CAMDEN
South Carolina equine partners will team up to present a
conference in Camden, South Carolina on January 15th, 16th and
17th, 2009. The Steering Committee for the Conference is
comprised of members of the South Carolina Thoroughbred Owners
and Breeders Association, The South Carolina Thoroughbred
Retirement Foundation, The South Carolina Equine Promotion
Foundation, The South Carolina Horse Council, and the South
Carolina Department of Agriculture, and the National
Steeplechase Museum.
The conference is aimed at a general audience with all
disciplines included. There will be seminars on developing
equine related properties, looking at projects and trends in the
industry in South Carolina and adjoining states, dealing with
retirement facilities and the problem of unwanted horses, a vets
forum on horse physiology – no matter what the breed or
discipline, and the application of “natural horsemanship” in
breaking and training.
The National Steeplechase Museum will host the conferees on
Friday evening and there will be a barn tour offered on Saturday
afternoon. The Conference meeting will conclude with a
continental breakfast during training on the schooling course of
the Springdale Race Course. The Awards Ceremony on
Saturday January 17th for the South Carolina Thoroughbred
Owners and Breeders will be part of a festive dinner and silent
auction to benefit The South Carolina Thoroughbred Retirement
facility at Wateree Correctional Institution. .
Dan Rosenberg, retired Director of Three Chimney Farms,
Lexington, and currently President of Rosenberg
Thoroughbred Consulting Kentucky will be the keynote
conference speaker. His topic will be “Why We Need Horses.
At the SCTOBA Awards Dinner on Saturday night Hall of Fame
trainer, Carl Nafzger will be the speaker. He has not only
a sterling record as a trainer of Champion racehorses, but a
little known past as a world class bull rider and a member of
the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
