Red Giant Wins Virginia Derby
in course-record time

Peachtree Stable's RED GIANT got the best of Strike a Deal in an exciting stretch run to win the $1 million Virginia Derby (G2) at Colonial Downs by a nose on Saturday. The final time for the 1 1/4 miles over firm turf was a course-record 1:59 3/5.

The chestnut son of Giant’s Causeway is trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden to victory by Horacio Karamanos. Red Giant earned his second consecutive stakes triumph, following a win in the Restoration S. at Monmouthin his previous out.

The colt now has a record of 8-4-1-1 lifetime mark, and earnings of $712,410. The SCTOBA congratulates SCTOBA Board Member John Fort and hopes for even bigger scores for Red Giant as the summer progresses.
