Residency Races Close with 258 Nominations

The Second South Carolina Residency Races, set to run at Philadelphia park on Breeders Cup Day November 4th, had a total of 258 two year olds nominated for 2006.  The colt division (Christopher Elser Memorial) had 139 nominees while the filly division (The Donna Freyer) had 119. 

Kirkwood Stable of Camden, South Carolina led the 24 training centers in number of nominees with the Webb Carroll Training Center in St Matthews, South Carolina coming in with the second most nominees.  Third and fourth in the training centers nominations list were the Elloree Training Center in Elloree, South Carolina and Custom Care Equine in Camden.

SCTOBA President Lee Christian said, “We are pleased with the number of nominees and excited about the prospects for a couple of good races in November. The 2006 Residency Races Nominees highlight the wide range of horses that train in SC.  We had nominations from owners in 17 different states and one from Canada.  Most of the top training centers in the state realize that these races showcase the great job they do in getting horses ready to run and are using it as part of their marketing.  Plans are already in the works for the 2007 edition of the South Carolina Residency Races.”
