Trained Jazil Wins Belmont 138
Jazil added his name to the list of Classic winners trained
in South Carolina when he won the Belmont Stakes 138 on June
10th. The son of Seeking the Gold out of the Deputy
Minister mare Better Than Honor, Jazil swung six wide on the far
turn to make his move on the leaders and edged away from
runner-up Bluegrass Cat in the final furlong to win by a length
and a quarter for owner Shadwell Stable, trainer Kiran
McLaughlin, and jockey Fernando Jara.
Jazil, barely 15.3 hands high, was broken and trained at the
Camden Training Center under the watchful eye of trainer Bob
Witham. Assistant trainer Jennifer Leadbitter said this of
Jazil, ”The little colt was so laid back - not a mean bone in
his body. He was an absolute delight to be around and
train. He did everything right from his early training all
the way through his gatework.“
The SCTOBA adds its congratulations to Bob Witham and
Jennifer Leadbitter for a job well done in getting Jazil on the
road to a Classic win.
