SCTOBA Awards Dinner

The SCTOBA held its annual awards dinner jointly as a Fundraiser for the South Carolina Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation in Camden on Jan. 14th. Thoroughbred Hall of Fame trainer and all time leading steeplechase trainer Jonathan Sheppard thoroughly entertained the crowd with an array of anecdotes and stories. He also offered sage advice on breeding quality horses.

The Awards winners for 2005 were:
 
Two Year Old Colt or Gelding Brother Banks – O.H. Wienges
Two Year Old Filly Signal’s Trick – Chuck Lloyd
Three Year Old Colt or Gelding Black Tie – O.H. Wienges
Three Year Old Filly Havin’ a Moan – Franklin G. Smith, Sr.
Older Colt or Gelding American Prince – Bobby Nelson
Older Filly or Mare Minersdixigirl – Mary Wagers
Stallion Ride The Storm – Franklin G. Smith
Breeder of the Year Othneil H. Wienges
Horse of the Year Havin’ A Moan

The meeting was held jointly with the South Carolina Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. The evening of fun, food, and dancing also raised over $10,000 for the organizations. Plans are under way for the 2007 edition.
