The second
edition of the South Carolina Residency Races will run at
Philadelphia Park in the fall of 2006. The exact date and
distance are to be determined, but will be at a similar time and
distance to the 2005 races which will run on Nov 5th
at six and a half furlongs. SCTOBA President Lee Christian said
“The response for the 2005 races has been terrific. We closed
the nominations with over 140 colts and over 120 fillies. We
had several people who did not hear about the Races until late.
As we have more people aware of the races we hope for an even
better response in 2006. We must now shift gears and work on
getting a quality field of runners for the 2005 Races.”
The SCTOBA is
also announcing that the colt division of the 2005 Race will be
named in honor of Christopher Elser. Christopher was the son of
SCTOBA Board member Kip Elser. Christopher was tragically killed
in 2004. We hope the race will be a fitting tribute to a life
cut too short. The filly race will run in honor of Donna Freyer
– SCTOBA Vice President. Donna came up with the notion that the
SCTOBA sponsor the Residency Races to promote the training
center activity in the state.
The colt division will run as
the South Carolina Residency race/Christopher Elser Memorial and
the filly race will run as the South Carolina Residency Race
/Donna Freyer Stake.
