Whiteley Display Highlights Opening of Archives Wing

The Friends of the Camden Archive and Museum held the opening of the new wing of the Archives in Camden on June 5th.  The focal point for the open house was a large display of memorabilia of Frank Whiteley.  Whiteley is a retired Hall of Fame horse trainer who lives in Camden.  He conditioned several legendary flat track horses such as Ruffian, Tom Rolfe, Damascus and four time horse of the year, Forego, in Camden, SC.  Whiteley was in attendance with his son David, grandson Seth and granddaughter Kyle.  Many took the opportunity to watch video tapes with Whiteley of past races of Damascus, Ruffian and Tom Rolfe.  The video tapes were viewed in the new multipurpose room named for Whiteley.  Other racing dignitaries present included trainer and former Whiteley assistant, Mike Bell and television racing analyst, Charlsie Cantey.

The opening of the Whiteley display was the culmination of the hard work and generosity of many as more than $100,000 was raised for the display.
