Elser’s Kirkwood Stables Sells World Record Two Year Old
Kip Elser’s Kirkwood Stables was the consignor on the colt that
set a new world record sales price for a two-year-old in
training. The colt sold for $4.5 million at the recent
2004 Fasig-Tipton Calder selected two-year-olds in training
sale. The colt is the first foal out of the unraced
Storm Cat mare Hidden Storm, a half sister to Grade 3 winner
Jazz Club from the immediate family of Prospectors Delite,
Mineshaft, Tomisue’s Delight and Runup the Colors. The
colt was purchased by Fusao Sekiguchi and will be trained by
Neil Drysdale, who also trained Fusaichi Pegasus. Elser
commented that although it is great to sell horses for lots of
money, he is most proud of the fact that graduates of his
program include Breeders Cup Classic winner Alphabet Soup,
Breeders Cup Fillies and Mares Turf winner Soaring Softly,
Champion Sprinter Smoke Glacken, and Kentucky Oaks
winner Gal In A Ruckus. The SCTOBA
congratulates the Camden, SC based Kirkwood Stables and SCTOBA
Board Member Kip Elser on this accomplishment.
