Dogwood
Horses Score Three Wins on Sept 1st
Dogwood Stable horses made three trips to the winner’s circle
on Monday September 1st with Forty Five and Tiffany Touch
scoring victories at Saratoga Race Course in New York and Boom
Bah Yay winning at River Downs in Ohio.
Forty Five, a three-year-old colt by Gone West, won the
second race at Saratoga, a seven furlong event by half a length
after leading throughout the stretch. His race carried a purse
of $45,000 – hunch players had a ball playing Forty Five. The
win was even more impressive with the knowledge that Forty Five
hadn’t been to the races since February 7th.
Tiffany Touch, a two-year-old filly by Deputy Minister, had
finished fourth in her Saratoga debut earlier in the month, but
would not be denied the win on Monday. With a full field of 12,
Tiffany Touch stayed off the pace for the early part of the
race, but turning for home she raced seven wide to wear down the
pacesetters. Under a patient ride by jockey John Velasquez, the
filly won by two lengths and was still drawing away at the wire.
Both Forty Five and Tiffany Touch were ridden by John
Velasquez and trained by Todd Fletcher. The trainer/rider duo
had a banner day – winning the second, third, fourth, fifth, and
then the feature race of the day, the Ballston Spa Breeders’ Cup
Handicap.
To cap off the winning day, the four-year-old filly Boom Bah
Yay won a mile and a sixteenth allowance race at River Downs by
three and a quarter lengths. Ridden to victory by Dean Sarvis,
Boom Bah Yay is trained by Elwood McCann.
The 2 Saratoga winners helped Dogwood have a very successful
Saratoga meeting. They finished tied for third in the Top Ten
Leading Owners at the meet with 4 wins and $182,471 in total
purses. Dogwood finished the meet with 4 wins, 4 seconds, and 2
thirds from 28 starters. They also tied for leading owner of
two-year-olds with 3 wins and 2 seconds from 14 starters.
The SCTOBA congratulates Dogwood Stables on a very successful
Saratoga meet.
