2007 Awards Dinner |
The SCTOBA and
the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation of SC held a gala dinner
and silent auction in Camden on Jan. 17th. The event was to
raise money for the TRF of SC and present the annual awards for
SCTOBA .The event followed the Equine Industry Conference
organized by SCTOBA member Hope Cooper.
Carl Nafzger, Hall of Fame trainer, treated the crowd with
stories of the champions he trained including Unbridled, Banshee
Breeze . and Street Sense. He noted that the horse trains you
–you don’t train the horse. He also commented that one should
enjoy watching two $5,000 claimers giving all that they have in
a stretch duel but was quick to add that you should enjoy
watching them –you don’t necessarily need to own them.
The Equine Conference was a two day event with participants in
different equine discipline and breeds coming together to share
ideas and common issues. From Dan Rosenberg’s keynote speech of
“Why we need horses?” to the tour of the Seabiscuit barn at the
Wateree Correctional Institute, the group was both entertained
and informed. Several SCTOBA members were sponsors for the
conference. Those included Custom Care Equine, Holly Hill
Training Center, Kirkwood Stables , and Santa Carolina Winery.
